With five decades of urban planning expertise in forty cities across the world, Alain Bertaud believes that bridging the gap between economics and urban planning would immensely improve the welfare and productivity of cities and their inhabitants.
His unique experience includes working with planners in Beijing as the People’s Republic of China, helping rebuild markets in St. Petersburg and Moscow after the Soviet Union collapsed, understanding Indonesian kampungs, and much more. He is constantly looking to incorporate the view that cities are labor markets into city planning offices.
Bertaud is a Senior Research Scholar at the NYU Marron Institute of Urban Management and recently published his latest book, Order without Design: How Markets Shape Cities. Prior to his tenure at the Marron Institute, he served as an urban transport independent consultant, worked as a resident urban planner in cities around the world like Bangkok, San Salvador, and Chandigarh, India, and represented the World Bank as their Principal Urban Planner.
Tyler is Holbert L. Harris Chair of Economics at George Mason University and serves as chairman and faculty director of the Mercatus Center at George Mason University. With colleague Alex Tabarrok, Tyler is coauthor of the popular economics blog Marginal Revolution and cofounder of the online educational platform Marginal Revolution University.
This event is at capacity, and we are no longer accepting registrations.
